Step Into our Outdoor Adventure in Camberley this World Book Day!

This February Half Term through into March, Camberley is proud to host the Official World Book Day® Treasure Hunt—a high-tech, outdoor adventure for the whole family. We’re inviting families to get outside and step inside the books using the power of Augmented Reality (AR).

World Book Day® is a charity on a mission to help every child take part in the life-changing magic of reading. This hunt supports that goal by making books accessible, interactive, and—most importantly—fun! Families are invited to hunt for 10 ‘Book Zones’ hidden in shop windows. Using only a smartphone, explorers can scan markers to see 3D characters – from brave astronauts to mythical unicorns – leap into the real world. Each stop also features a hidden secret letter, found by taking selfies with the characters; families who find all ten can solve the mystery word and complete the trail.

The experience also allows children to take selfies with each of the 3D characters to create a permanent digital souvenir of their adventure.

The experience is built around three exciting challenges:

  • The Hunt: Use our hunt map to find “Book Zones” hidden in shop windows across Camberley Town Centre.
  • The Reveal: We’ve kept the characters a mystery! Scanning each window marker triggers a surprise on your phone, revealing which of our 3D characters has been hiding there.
  • Secret Selfie Journey: Every stop offers a unique AR selfie frame. Within each one, a hidden letter is tucked away. Families must find all the letters to solve the puzzle and win prizes!

Don’t forget to enter the National Book Token competition, after you scan your first stop, to be in with a chance to win one of ten £50 book tokens!

Luke Lloyd, Collectively Camberley BID Manager, commented:

“We are thrilled to bring this magical experience to Camberley. By combining the excitement of a digital treasure hunt with the joys of stories and books, we are offering families a fun, free and engaging way for families to explore our high street. It’s a brilliant opportunity to inspire people to go all in this World Book Day, celebrate the National Year of Reading, and support local businesses”.

Stephen Blackwell, Project Director at High Street Safari, added:

“By bringing these characters to life in 3D, we’re helping children engage with reading in a way that feels modern and exciting. We’re proud to work alongside World Book Day® to put books at the heart of the community.”

This hunt is completely free to play and requires no app downloads. Simply bring a smartphone and your sense of adventure!

Mark your calendars: The hunt begins on 14th February and runs until15th March. It’s free, it’s fun, and it’s waiting for you!
