Normandy Village School wins £1,000 in The Square Camberley’s Community Corner Logo Design Competition

The Square Camberley has presented a £1,000 cheque and prize bundle to Normandy Village School after one of its pupils was selected as the winner of the centre’s Community Corner Logo Design Competition.

Throughout April and May this year, The Square invited local schools and young creatives from across Camberley and local areas to design the official logo for its brand-new Community Corner, a dedicated space designed to celebrate and support local community groups, charities and initiatives.

After receiving a fantastic range of entries from schools throughout the local area, the judging panel selected the winning design by Rylin Palmer, aged 8, from Year 3 at Normandy Village School.

On Tuesday 23rd June, Gavin Vidler, Centre Manager at The Square, and Kim Hillier-Davies, Marketing Assistant, visited Normandy Village School to present a £1,000 cheque to the school’s art department, along with a prize bundle for Rylin during a special school assembly. They were welcomed by Mr Franks, Head Teacher, and Mrs Marwick, Art Lead, who helped support the competition within the school.

Rylin’s winning design will now become the official logo for The Square’s new Community Corner and will feature on signage, marketing materials, social media content and promotional activity associated with the initiative.

The competition formed part of The Square’s ongoing commitment to supporting local schools, encouraging creativity and strengthening community connections.

Gavin Vidler, Centre Manager at The Square Shopping Centre, said: “We were incredibly impressed by the standard of entries we received from schools across Camberley. It was clear that a huge amount of creativity, imagination and effort had gone into every design submitted. Rylin’s logo stood out for its colourful and welcoming design and perfectly captured the community spirit that our Community Corner represents. We are delighted to be supporting Normandy Village School’s art department with this donation and look forward to showcasing Rylin’s design as the face of the Community Corner.”

Mrs L Marwick, Teacher and Art Lead at Normandy Village School, added: “A heartfelt thank you again The Square Camberley team!  As Art Leader, it has been incredibly rewarding to see how this project has engaged children across all year groups. It provided a meaningful opportunity for pupils to apply their artistic skills in a real-world context, understanding that their work could represent something significant beyond the classroom.

This initiative forms part of our wider work towards achieving the Artsmark accreditation, a nationally recognised award that celebrates schools demonstrating a strong commitment to the arts. At Normandy Village School, we have been working hard to embed creativity across our curriculum and raise the profile of the arts through a wide range of exciting opportunities.

We are incredibly proud of our young artists and grateful to The Square Camberley’s Community Corner for providing such a valuable opportunity. Together, we are building meaningful connections and highlighting the important role that the arts play in enriching both education and community life.”

The Square would like to thank all the schools, teachers, parents and pupils who took part in the competition and congratulate Normandy Village School and Rylin on their well-deserved win.

The new Community Corner will provide a dedicated platform for local groups, charities and community organisations to connect with visitors and share information about their activities and services.
