The shopping centre rebound: How one Surrey centre continues to outperform national and regional footfall figures

Footfall figures supplied from The Square Camberley:

8.1% increase in footfall compared against local South East Region (ShopperTrak South East Region) *
Reopening of non-essential stores

Following the opening of all non-essential stores on Monday 15th June, footfall figures released from The Square Camberley continue to buck national and regional figures. The Square Camberley’s footfall has climbed from -42% on the week when non-essential retail was allowed to open (15th June) to -14.9% on the last week of August. At the same time the national footfall went from -60% to 32.3% and the South East Region went from 47% to -21.7% on the same period.

Although year-on-year footfall remains down, The Square Camberley has announced today the centre’s impressive figures compared with both national and regional statistics released from ShopperTrak. This increase on footfall numbers was helped by the discounted parking campaign that is live until the 14th September across Camberley Car Parks.

Rhoda Joseph, Centre Manager at The Square Camberley, said: “Since re-opening our non-essential stores on the 15th June, here at The Square we’ve witness a real positive rebound – cemented by our footfall figures.” Rhoda continued: “We are striving to work with retailers to successfully offer a safe and welcoming destination for those essential and treat purchases customers have been missing for so long. The Square outperformed the national average for the first eleven-weeks by a fantastic 13.8% and regionally by 8.1%**! This positive sentiment, echoes figures also released from the National Statistic (ONS), seeing shopping centres continue to move towards their original footfall. Many shops have continued to offer summer sales, and alongside the ‘back to school’ rush the demand to shop locally is very encouraging.”
