Surrey Heath Borough Council Presents A Century of Sound 2015

Surrey Heath Borough Council proudly presents 'A Century of Sound 2015'. This free event will mark a week of celebration respecting the musical and artistic heritage of Surrey Heath in the community; a heritage going back over 100 years.

**We are proud to announce local entrepreneur and artist manager Chris Herbert as The Festival Ambassador.** Chris is founder of ‘ten10Management’ – famed for creating the Spice Girls, he also formed and managed boy band Five and is one of the fore-runners in commercial Music Management.

A special piece of music has been written for the festival by local songwriter and composer Steve Sacre, which will be played in [The Mall Camberley](http://www.themall.co.uk/camberley/) during the festival week. It will also be used during the Music Makers Exhibition at [Surrey Heath Museum.](http://www.surreyheath.gov.uk/museum)

The festival will promote local venues in Bagshot, Camberley, Chobham, Frimley, Lightwater, Mytchett, West End and Windlesham. Local communities are encouraged to get involved either as part of the audience or by taking the opportunity to showcase their own individual talent, whatever it may be.

**Taking place from Wednesday 9th to Wednesday 16th September 2015**, the festival will focus on local established artists, as well as helping to develop and nurture up and coming talent at participating venues through daytime and evening performances.

The festival will feature musicians, dancers, wordsmiths and poets, swing-cats and blues brothers, folkies and rockers, electronic wizards and DJs, choirs and orchestras. Also on offer are ACM Music Taster Sessions in guitar, piano, drums, DJ, vocal and stage presence, all run by highly-skilled tutors from the Academy of Contemporary Music, Guildford. Each taster session is designed so you can come along and have a go for free, even if you have never previously picked up a musical instrument or ever sung a song – now is your chance! All ages welcome.

Councillor Joanne Potter, Mayor of Surrey Heath, said:
“I am always amazed at the enthusiasm of everyone who gets involved in local entertainment. It is so important to bring together musical talent and ability with the general public also getting involved, helping and encouraging young children and teenagers to join in these great events organised by the Surrey Heath Museum and local businesses and organisations.
We are also very lucky to have Chris Herbert as our Ambassador. I hope you are all as excited as I am to see all the events at each venue, and look forward to meeting many of you there”.
