About Robert Newman's Total Eclipse of Descartes

EventsFebruaryRobert Newman's Total Eclipse of Descartes

Robert ‘Rob’ Newman first found fame as part of the Mary Whitehouse Experience in the late 1980s with Hugh Dennis, Steve Punt and David Baddiel. He later formed a comedy duo with David Baddiel – Newman and Baddiel - and rose as unlikely pin-ups in a climate where comedy was being feted as ‘the new rock ‘n’ roll’.

The pair had their own television show ‘Newman and Baddiel In Pieces’ and headlined a huge unprecedented London show.

Since the Newman and Baddiel break-up, Rob Newman has been politically active and written four novels along with many solo television and radio appearances. He won the Best Scripted Comedy with a Live Audience award at the BBC Audio Drama awards in 2015.

In 2019 Rob will tour ‘Robert Newman’s Total Eclipse of Descartes’

Based on the hit BBC Radio 4 series ‘Rob Newman’s Total Eclipse of Descartes’, Rob’s whirlwind tour of philosophy explores 3000 years of good and bad ideas from Pythagoras to d driverless cars, by way of levitating Buddhist monks, Pavlov’s dogs, Jean-Paul Sartre’s mum, Fat Man On A Bridge, T. Rex, Morrissey and wire monkeys. In a world gone crazy, can philosophy help?

**** “Gleefully jaunty and refreshingly intelligent…hugely entertaining” The Guardian

**** “Intellectually charged and adorably ambitious…a delightfully digestible dose of brain food” The Times
