Hammer and Tongue Poetry Slam at Camberley Theatre

As part of the Camberley Theatre 50th Anniversary celebrations, 2016 will see the launch of the Camberley International Festival, taking place from June 1st – 11th. Camberley International Festival have invited nationally renowned poetry slam organisers, Hammer and Tongue to host an afternoon of spoken word and poetry in the bar at Camberley Theatre from 2pm on Saturday 4th June. The Sunday Times recently said, ‘The best live poetry is to be found at the Hammer and Tongue slams’. The slam is open to all. Randomly appointed audiences-judges will decide who will progress towards the National Final at The Royal Albert Hall next year.

Each contestant gets three minutes for their original spoken word or poetry.

Special guests for the afternoon are Steve Larkin, himself a former International Slam Champion and named “the spoken-word guru” by the C.B.C. and Paula Varjack, a multi-media artist whom The List called “punchy & engaging” both will perform and host the afternoon.

The theatre bar will be open and along with tea and coffee will also be serving cocktails, locally-brewed craft ales, an excellent wine list and a great new menu of contemporary food and snacks. Come along and enjoy the afternoon, or get up and have a go!
